Just over 3 years ago we started with the restoration of the Bocaniciu family building (no. 324) situated right in the historic center of Rosia Montana. It is an impressive historic building with a large shop room leading into the central square. It was built in 1867 and remained the property of the Bocaniciu family right up until the 1970s which is why much of its original structure and facade have remained intact to this present day. We are almost there but several elements of this listed building are still in need of restoration and repair.
Our aim has been to bring back life to this house and many volunteers, friends, craftsmen, ARA association, Romania’s Heritage Institute, and others helped us on our journey. Once finished we want the upstairs rooms and the courtyard to be a space where children and young scouts from all over the world can come together. Our plan for the high ceiling shop room that leads into the main square is to turn it into a bistro with a terrace. Whilst the room perfectly lends itself to that purpose, right now there exists no space in Rosia Montana where locals or visitors alike can meet, eat while being surrounded by beautiful historical buildings. It is a unique setting for its tranquility and charm at one and the same time.
Three years on and we are nearly finished. The chairs are waiting to be put out onto the central square next spring. However winter is coming and we still need to finish urgent repairs and restorations such as the facade. If we can finish these in the coming weeks, then the house will be safe for winter and can open its doors next string. After far too many years of neglect we need to kick-start life back into Rosia Montana’s central square so that locals and visitors alike can enjoy its beauty and feel its pulse beating anew.

Squeeze woolen clothes by pressing with a towel, then let them dry stretched, horizontally, not hung. Avoid direct sunlight or heat sources (radiators).
